Song of the Quarkbeast

Song of the Quarkbeast (Kazam #2)
By Jasper Fforde
HMH Books for Young Readers, 2013. 289 pgs. Young Adult Fiction.

In this second chronicle of Kazam Mystical Arts Management, foundling and acting manager Jennifer Strange must navigate her eclectic crew of sorcerers to defend themselves against a plot against the management of magic itself in the Ununited Kingdoms. Will magic become the tool of one megalomaniac? And what exactly will happen when the magicians hear the song of the Quarkbeast?

Jasper Fforde's style can only be described as satirical, witty, and original. It makes his books hard to describe, because there is so much in them that is so far outside of our realm of reality. Fforde does a fantastic job making you buy into his fantasy world. The reader will find themselves torn between wanting to tear through the book to find out how it ends and reading slowly to savor every witty word.
