Companions of the Night

Companions of the Night
By Vivian Vande Velde
Harcourt Brace, 1995. 212 pgs. Young Adult

When Kerry Nowicki makes a late-night run to the laundromat to rescue her little brother's lost teddy bear, she winds up witnessing a group of men attacking a handsome young man they allege is a vampire. Thinking they are clearly crazy, Kerry helps the young man, Ethan, escape. The next day, though, her house is broken into and her brother and father kidnapped, and Kerry has to join forces with Ethan, who she quickly finds is indeed a vampire, to try to get them back.

This book started out strong, with an interesting premise for the story. However, it promised more than it delivered. Ethan is lying, manipulative and selfish, and the story in no way convinced me that Kerry should have any sort of attraction to him.
